Qigong Classes

What is Qigong?

Qigong is a health promotion practice which originates from the wisdom traditions of China. These wisdom traditions go back at least 4,000 years. Self-applied Qigong with intentional body movements is first documented in a silk scroll discovered in a royal tomb dating from 168 BCE. Several postures are similar in appearance to the Ba Duan Jin series of Qigong movements which are taught in modern times.

Literally meaning “energy work”, Qigong taps into natural flows of life energy or “qi” within the body, to promote resilience, health and balance. Working with qi through a series of simple daily exercises, Qigong practice enables the body to flow and harmonise at its own natural pace. Experience shows that these harmonising effects may happen on spiritual, mental and emotional levels in addition to the physical.

Modern insights from neuroscience echo the importance of letting the body move in this way especially after any trauma and shock or long-term stress. It is a way of optimising our health and resilience and resourcing our bodies in these uncertain times. Owing to this it offers the prospect of help in recovery from chronic illnesses such as Cancer and Covid.

Classes and 1-to-1 Tuition

Online Qigong courses are jointly taught with Wendy Bratherton. Wendy is an experienced biodynamic craniosacral therapist and BodySoul workshop leader.

We offer courses in various forms of Qigong such as The Ba Duan Jin, Shibashi and the Swimming Dragon.

For added depth and to awaken curiosity, some time will be devoted in each class to Daoist philosophy as it applies to health promotion, Chinese medicine and qi. More on qigong research.

Wendy Bratherton and Christopher Low have been practising Qigong for over 35 years and bring decades of their own in-depth experience of working with qi to enhance their online courses.
